During this project, I discovered that clay is difficult to manipulate and it takes patience to get the shape you want to see in the clay. This piece is successful because their was no air holes so it didn't explode when heated. If I could change it, I would have taken more time painting the small details on the pumpkin. I learned from this assignment that you can make art on all different kinds of surfaces and I found out that I really enjoy the way a simple black ink drawing looks on top of a busy newspaper. This piece was very successful in showing how even the simplest of designs can look interesting when paired with a unique background. If I could change the drawing, I might add more leaves onto the tree branch or focus on small details more. I learned from this project that you don't just have to use a basic medium when doing an art piece, you can also include things from nature or anything else like that. This piece was successful because I was able to use a leaf to represent a balloon. If I could do this project again I would add more than one nature aspect, it would be really cool to make a whole project out of just nature. We Collaborate
My project was a collaboration of ideas between myself and the original artist that thought of the idea of drawing the Wizard Of Oz characters walking on Abbey Road like the Beatles. My part in the collaboration was incorporating my own ideas about giving each character a different colored symbol that represents who they are and what they were granted when they visited the wizard. During my process of creating this piece, I asked many students around me to give their input about how to place my characters and what their extra object they have should be. My teacher helped me understand how I could replicate the original piece and helped me get cardboard and other supplies needed to complete my final artist steal project. http://www.pinterest.com/kristenmaselli/artist-steal/ I Take Risks For this project, I tried doing a stencil which was a big risk for me. I had two characters (Scarecrow and cowardly lion) that had so many specific little details with the fur/straw that I know it would be extremely hard to complete with an exacto knife, but I did it anyways and I'm very happy with how all my characters look. I am very used to just drawing with a pencil so using spray paint for my stencil was really challenging for me, I like the way the spray paint was fast and easy to use but I still feel more confident when using a pencil and a eraser. I Create Original Art In the artists observe project we were instructed to take a picture of something that was a location, still life, scenery or object from nature. I always see people on their phones, even when they are charging, so I took a picture of my friend who was typing on their phone while it was plugged into an outlet charging and that was the picture I decided to draw. I also changed the picture a little bit to change it into being my own art. I didn't add any new objects to the picture to make something totally different, I just observed the original picture then changed a few aspects to make it a little different picture. For example, I added nail polish to the hand inferring it was a girl even though the original picture was of a boy's hand. Also the medium I choose to draw in made the boys skin tone look darker than it was in the original picture. Small changes like these can affect the outcome of the overall picture. I Take Risks For this project I decided to do the whole drawing using the stippling method. I have never done a large skall drawing in stippling just one small warm-up we were assinged to do. I thought that using stippling would add more creativity and originality to my artwork, I also thought it would be a cool new way to express the shadows in the peice. I knew by taking this risk to do stippling I might not have the patience to finish my drawing but it could also add more originality to my artwork. Overall, I think I did a pretty good job with the stippling affect. At some points I was very frustrated with how certain parts were looking and how the shading was very difficult. I thought it was very hard because you can't undo a mistake when you're using pen like you can if you use pencil as your medium. In general my project turned out almost exactly how I wanted it to, the only thing I would change is being able to represent the shaded areas more easily because it was hard to transition from a light to dark stop when stippling. On the Saturday night of September 13th, 2014 my parents and I went to downtown Raleigh, North Carolina to visit the Sparkcon Art Festival. It was awesome because there were circus acts, body shifters, and my favorite was the fire dancers. There was a lot of people dressed in crazy attire and had on weird costumes and face make-up but I thought that just made the experience way more cool and memorable.
One catergory of artist observe mini lessons was Still Life. For this project I drew a 3D hand. In class we worked a lot of still life projects and I liked it alot because it was something constant to draw and wasn't going to change during your drawing like a live animal would. Still life drawing taught me technique, detail and medium. We used mediums of pencil, pen and charcoal. My favorite medium was pencil because it was easy to manipulate and erase if you made a mistake. I thought my still life pieces were successful because I did pretty well with all three mediums. I became much better at drawing thanks to the still life mini lesson. In the future I would like to add more detail and not be afraid to go darker with my mediums.
I really enjoyed doing the Perspective Project. My group and I walked around Apex High School and took pictures of people and/or objects from different perspectives, this type of art is called forced perspective. Throughout this project I learned different types of perspectives that can be drawn or photographed! I thought this project was very successful because my group had some funny and really realistic looking pictures because we thought of good ways to use forced perspective. If I did this project again I would have taken more pictures that included props instead of just people. For the Scientific mini lesson I drew a flower provided by my teacher. This project was done by observing the object in class while drawing it. After we drew it on paper in class we transferred it to the iPad to add color to it and add more of a texture/3D effect. In this lesson I learned a new technique, the class learned different techniques on the iPad of how to combine art and technology. My peice was quite successful but I liked how it turned out on paper much more than how it turned out on the iPad. I could have done better on the iPad when adding color and showing value. If I were to do this project again I would focus more on value instead of detail and try harder on learning how to use the technology. |
